Every year after the long hibernation of winter, we dust off our bags, shine up our shoes, polish our clubs, and head off to the golf course to play the gentlemen’s game of golf. So I thought that this would be a wonderful time to think about why we play golf, and review some points of golf etiquette. There is an old golf saying, “Play the ball as it lies, play the course as you find it, and if you cannot do either, do what is fair.” We would always do well to follow this simple rule as it makes the game more enjoyable for everyone concerned.

Golf is a social game, and you frequently find an interesting mix of players on the course at any given time.

Today I will introduce the oldest ladies golf club in the world– The Carnoustie Ladies’ Golf Club to you.

The Carnoustie Ladies’ Golf Club was established in August 1873 for the benefit of the wives of the members of the Dalhousie Golf Club.

These ladies played over an 18 hole, par 3 golf course which stretched westwards from the Lochty Burn. The course was on land donated for the ladies’ use by a Miss Kinloch. The upkeep of the golf course was paid for entirely at the expense of the members who hired their own greenkeeper, the ladies also owned their own green keeping equipment! Unlike today, the golf season at that time was very short, usually from July to September which coincided with the influx of summer residents from Dundee, Edinburgh and surrounding areas, to the seaside resort of Carnoustie.  Read more... When you’re on a roll, look for the next and best opportunity to extend your winning streak or more accurately, project your formula, and capture as much market share as you can afford to.

Avoid the conflicts and headaches and keep away from the staff.

But you must also know what’s worth fighting for and when to throw in the towel.

You never can see it coming and when it hits, you need to determine when to walk away.

It’s worked out well.

The key is to stay focused on the prize and know that much of your success is related to how you manage problems.
